Plus Health DMB Multivarietal – Specialized Olive Oil

DescriptionThe premium extra virgin olive oil Plus Health DMB Multivarietal belongs to the new innovative series of olive oils with the patented title “Plus Health”.

It is the result of the efforts of Sakellaropoulos Organic Farms, after many tests, analyses and scientific synergies, in exploring new compounds in olive oil.

Its great uniqueness lies in the fact that it is a unique Greek Single Estate multivarietal olive oil that comes from an innovative combination of 5 different olive varieties (blend), with cold extraction of a few hours from their harvest, at 16-18°C.

It presents a high content of total polyphenols, which exceeds the limits of European Regulation 432/2012, while at the same time, based on specialized analysis, it contains a new and promising compound called DMB, to which many properties related to health are attributed based on scientific research.

Specialized DMB Multivarietal Olive Oil

At Sakellaropoulos Organic Farms since 1992, with vertical production and approved packaging according to Greek and international standards, we are constantly evolving our know-how and methods, based on modern scientific data, continuous experimentation and systematic monitoring.

After 30 years of research, specialization, analysis and synergies with university institutions and scientists throughout the world, we created the new, innovative series of olive oils with the registered name "Plus Health" and the signature of Sakellaropoulos Organic Farms.

Plus Health DMB Multivarietal extra virgin olive oil polyphenols healthThe olive oils and the concept of the Plus Health series result from a completely different approach to the term extra virgin olive oil and its characteristics.

Their production methodology starts exclusively from the Terroir of Sakellaropoulos Organic Farms, which is why they are characterized by the international term Single Estate.

Plus Health Multivarietal olive oils are unique Greek Single Estate olive oils that come from a combination of five (5) different olive varieties (blend), with a specific analogy resulting from our specialized know-how.

Olives of Kalamata, Koroneiki, Athinoelia, Koutsouroelia and Mourtoelia varieties, with different maturity stages and different taste characteristics, are combined within a few hours of harvest, in order to balance and give the best characteristics of each variety to the Plus Health DMB Multivarietal extra virgin olive oil.

These characteristics arise from the 5 different varieties of olives that coexist. Kalamata variety olives, with their large flesh, offer their characteristic bitter taste and pleasant aromas of herbs. The olives from Koroneiki variety provide an intense aroma, spicy taste and complexity. The olives from Athinoelia variety give unripe notes with fresh aromas of the field. Koutsouroelia olives help maintain the long, spicy aftertaste of unripe fruits and leaves. The olives of Mourtoelia variety provide their fruity special aroma and complex taste and lead to the final organoleptic balance of the Plus Health DMB Multivarietal olive oil.

All these parameters are combined simultaneously with specialized cold extraction within hours of harvest, at temperatures of 16-18°C and in ideal conditions, which meet the specifications of the ISO 22000 standard for food safety and hygiene.

Plus Health DMB Multivarietal extra virgin olive oil polyphenols health antioxidantsThese innovations in the cultivation and production of Plus Health olive oils lead to olive oils that display a multitude of innovative and unique characteristics.

Their important attribute is the high concentration of polyphenols. Polyphenols are well-known antioxidants that occur naturally in olive oil and scientific research and studies that have been conducted, attribute them with significant positive benefits to human health (see more).

The European Food Safety Authority has already recognized the positive effect of polyphenols (or phenols) on oxidative stress, officially, through the Health Claim contained in European Regulation 432/2012. "Olive oil polyphenols contribute to the protection of blood lipids from oxidative stress."

A basic requirement in the Health Claim of European Regulation 432/2012 is the daily intake of 20 grams of olive oil which contains at least 5 mg of hydroxytyrosol and its derivatives, which corresponds to a minimum concentration (limit) of 250 mg / kg of polyphenols.

Plus Health Multivarietal olive oils, according to analysis performed using the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) method, have shown high concentrations of polyphenols over time, manifold the limit of 250 mg / kg defined in European Regulation 432/2012.

At the same time, at Sakellaropoulos Organic Farms for many years, in addition to the cultivation, the method of processing and packaging of olive oils, we have carried out a variety of experiments, tests and collaborations with researchers in university institutions to measure the DMB concentration of Plus Health DMB Multivarietal olive oil.

DMB (3,3-dimethyl-1-butanol) is a compound of olive oil that was discovered recently. It is found in a few cold-extracted extra virgin olive oils. Modern studies and research conducted internationally characterize DMB as a compound that holds great promise for improving human health, through many different mechanisms (see more).

Plus Health DMB Multivarietal extra virgin olive oil polyphenols antioxidantsRecently, we participated in the research team of scientists from a variety of countries, which published in June 2025 an innovative method for the quantification of the DMB compound in olive oil, in the Journal of Food Bioactives (JFB) of the International Society for Nutraceuticals and Functional Foods (ISNFF).

This published scientific article is entitled “Quantification of 3,3-dimethyl-1-butanol (DMB) in olive oil: a rapid and novel method” (see more). This method has been validated according to the European guide Eurachem, a network of organizations in Europe, in collaboration with the Cooperation on International Traceability in Analytical Chemistry (CITAC).

The DMB compound appears to play an important role in human health. Scientific studies have shown that it can inhibit the key enzyme involved in the formation of TMAO (trimethylamine-N-oxide) (see more).

TMAO is produced by gut bacteria during the digestion of choline, lecithin, and carnitine, nutrients that are abundant in animal products, including red meat, egg yolks, and high-fat dairy products. TMAO is, at high levels, a toxic substance that can increase the risk of heart disease, kidney failure, atherosclerosis, heart attacks, and strokes (see more).

Plus Health DMB Multivarietal extra virgin olive oil polyphenols antioxidants Single Estate GreekTMAO also appears to enhance vascular inflammation in a variety of cardiovascular diseases, and bacterial communities associated with TMAO metabolism are even higher in patients with pulmonary hypertension. A research study in mice with induced heart failure (HF) showed that DMB treatment reduced TMAO levels, while playing a significant role in attenuating the development of cardiac structural remodeling and electrical remodeling (see more).

An indicator of the growing international scientific interest in TMAO is the number of methods that have been developed for the detection and quantification of TMAO and its related metabolites in bodily fluids. Twenty-seven (27) methods used for the determination of TMAO in humans, using modern and advanced analytical techniques, are mentioned in literature, as well as four (4) analytical techniques used for the determination of TMAO levels in mice (see more).

Since 2015, several international studies have been published in which the administration of 3,3-dimethyl-1-butanol (DMB) in metabolic diseases that are likely caused by or manifest with increased TMAO levels improved the health of laboratory animals (see more).

New evidence demonstrates that increased TMAO concentration contributes to vascular dysfunction associated with the consumption of a Western-style diet (high fat, high sugar, low fiber) and that this dysfunction can be prevented by suppressing TMAO with the help of DMB (see more).

Researchers at the Cleveland Heart Lab, who conducted experiments on mice, reported that dietary supplementation with DMB safely inhibited atherosclerosis (plaque buildup in the arteries) and significantly reduced TMAO production. They report that DMB inhibits the key enzyme in TMA production, thereby reducing plasma TMAO levels, inhibiting foam cell formation, and reducing aortic plaque progression in mice, all without affecting circulating cholesterol levels (see more).

The great uniqueness of the extra virgin olive oil Plus Health DMB Multivarietal, in addition to the high concentration of polyphenols, lies mainly in the content of the DMB compound.

According to the specialized analyzes that we have carried out based on the above published method in the Journal of Food Bioactives (JFB) of the International Society for Nutraceuticals and Functional Foods (ISNFF), the DMB values found in Plus Health DMB Multivarietal exceed 11,000 ng/L, which places it in the very small percentage of olive oils that contain DMB and are among the most remarkable values that have been recorded. In the same publication, other commercial olive oil samples were found to have concentrations as low as 1,500 ng/L.

Therefore, all these unique features and characteristics of Plus Health DMB Multivarietal make it an innovative, modern proposal of extra virgin olive oil from the Terroir of our Organic Farms.

It is the absolute reward of our efforts at Sakellaropoulos Organic Farms for over 30 years in the production of premium specialized olive oils.

As a Single Estate olive oil of Sakellaropoulos Organic Farms, it is packaged exclusively in our modern packaging facilities that have all the legal specifications for food safety and hygiene (see more), while it is available only through the process of natural sedimentation (unfiltered).
