The purpose of the whole study is to prove that by changing the nutritional habits, in a scientifically proven way, in groups of people who have a high risk of disease and especially heart attacks during the performance of their work, such as firefighters, this risk is reduced to extremely high and remarkable rates.
The organic olive oils by Sakellaropoulos Organic Farms, through the School of Public Health of HARVARD University of the USA, participate in the Mediterranean Diet Intervention Trial, which is carried out for 3 years, in 44 Fire stations of the IFD (Indianapolis Fire Department) and in selected groups of firefighters. The study is coordinated by the Greek professor of Harvard Medical School, Dr. Kalis Stefanos MD.
The number of volunteer firefighters participating in the study reaches 1000 volunteers and the study is called "FEEDING AMERICA'S BRAVEST".
More than one in three firefighters in the U.S. are obese and heart attacks are the number one cause of death in the front line of duty, by a large difference compared to burns and the dangerous gases contained in fire smoke.
